The Force Awakens content won’t be coming to Star Wars Battlefront

Electronic Arts and Dice have confirmed they will “focus on the original trilogy” for the current release of Star Wars Battlefront.

If you were holding out for The Force Awakens DLC in Star Wars Battlefront, we have some bad news for you.

Electronic Arts and developer DICE have announced they do not plan to develop content based on the new film, beyond the recent Battle of Jakku DLC.

Battle of Jakku features a map of a desert planet seen in The Force Awakens, but takes place 29 years before the events of the film.

When asked by a fan on Twitter about the possibility of episode 7 DLC (via NeoGAF) the game’s official twitter account had this to say:

"Our team is focusing on the original trilogy for this release of Star Wars Battlefront."

The wording of this response suggests that EA have plans for multiple Battlefront sequels, however nothing has been confirmed.

We have to admire EA’s commitment to the original trilogy, when they could so easily capitalise on The Force Awakens’ popularity.

Four expansion packs are currently planned for Star Wars Battlefront, and are confirmed to include the following:

  • Over 20 new items, including weapons, vehicles, and Star Cards for both Rebels and Imperials.
  • 4 additional Heroes and Villains (these were not named).
  • 16 new multiplayer maps featuring "new locations."
  • 4 new game modes.

The Season Pass will cost you £40 on PS4, Xbox One and PC, or you can wait to purchase each expansion individually.

Electronic Arts and DICE have plans to release new weapons, maps and cards for free in future updates.
