Apple is “accelerating efforts” to built its electric car, according to the Wall Street Journal, which also says it may arrive as soon as 2019.
Monday’s report says Apple is tripling the 600-strong workforce at its secret auto facility with a view to target a ship date of 2019.
Progress with Project Titan comes following more than a year of due diligence investigating the plausibility of an Apple Car, according to the report.
Now Apple is said to be moving forward with the plans, according to “people familiar with the matter”, and will now be working with government officials in California.
Last month, we brought word that the company was inquiring about access to a demilitarised test track in California, where others auto companies interested in autonomous vehicles have been testing early efforts.

It’s unclear whether Apple’s first vehicle will be a Tesla-esque human-powered electric car, or a driverless model closer to Google’s vision for the future of automotive travel.
Whether the company can have it ready within five years is another matter altogether, but the culmilative verdict from recent reports suggests Cupertino is dead set on revolutionising yet another industry.
