Video games don’t make good films, fact. It says it all that the best Hollywood adaptation is probably the first Tomb Raider film, or maybe Resident Evil: Apocalypse. But that isn’t stopping Threshold Entertainment from ploughing ahead with plans to make a movie based on classic puzzler Tetris.
The project was first announced back in 2014 but now Threshold – a joint venture between Chinese investor Bruno Wu’s Seven Stars Works and producer Larry Kasanoff, best known for being behind the Mortal Kombat films – has revealed it has secured the funding to produce a trilogy.
Because why just have one bad idea when you can have three? Predictably, the news has been met with ridicule on social media:

Apparently, the film will be an “epic, sci-fi thriller” based around the game. Which basically means it could be about absolutely anything.

Filming is set to start in 2017 with China one of the main locations, according to the company, which is working alongside the Tetris brand (now managed by Blue Planet Software) on the project.
