Teslasuit is a virtual reality suit complete with haptic feedback

No, this isn’t something out of Tron, it’s a suit made for virtual reality that lets you feel what you play.

It’s called Teslasuit – though it’s nothing to do with the carmaker Tesla – and it promises to make VR even more immersive than ever. It features haptic feedback – for the uninitiated, that’s the same mini vibrations that some smartphones use on their touchscreens to let you know your tap has registered.

Don it, and you’ll be able to feel your virtual reality environments and even characters.

It comes in two variations: the Prodigy has 52 channels (i.e. sensors), while the Pioneer only has 16. The Prodigy also has two climate control elements, meaning you can make it hotter or cooler to simulate your virtual environment. We’ve heard it gets mighty chilly at the top of Everest.

Its main use will be to simulate impact like bullet shots (though obviously a lot less severe) and tactile inputs like hugs and light contact. Think of it as like the N64’s Rumble Pak, but in suit form.

It’s also waterproof, and fully washable, which is a relief.

Early use cases include a paintball game that was developed specifically for the suit, and a slightly creepy hugging simulator. Not sure about the latter.

It’s passed its funding goal, and will ship in December. The full suit and software development kit can be yours for £1,199.
