Team Sonic Racing: New gameplay trailer revealed at E3 2018

Team Sonic Racing has been revealed by SEGA, and is set to get a big presence at E3 2018, starting with a brand-new gameplay trailer.

Team Sonic Racing – What is it?

Team Sonic Racing is a brand-new racing title from SEGA, developed by SUMO Digital, the team responsible for the excellent Sonic and SEGA All-Stars Racing Transformed.

A press release from the publisher provides more information about the game:

“Team Sonic Racing combines the best elements of arcade and fast-paced competitive style racing as you face-off with friends in intense multiplayer racing. Race together and work together as a team by sharing power-ups and speed boosts. Take controler of your racing style. Choose from three distinct character tupes and unlock game changing vehicle customisation options to suit your racing style. Speed up, gear up, Team Racing at Sonic Speed!”

With team racing such a core component of the game, hopefully it’ll be reminiscent of some excellent classics like Mario Kart Double Dash.

Team Sonic Racing Release Date

The game is currently slated for a winter launch on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Team Sonic Racing Gameplay – What can we expect?

The press release also details some key gameplay features, with team racing being a key component of racing. Team moves will allow you to assist your fellow racers, and also knock out opponents and perform ‘Team Ultimate’ moves. Whether these are attacks on enemy racers or speed boosts is unclear.

There’s also performance and skin customisations, allowing you to alter your cars to suit your race styles. On top of this there are also ‘Wisps’, 14 different offensive and defensive items to get the advantage over rival teams.

Players who prefer offline gaming also have an Adventure Mode to enjoy to be introduced to basic game features and characters.

In total there will be 15 playable characers from the Sonic universe across three character types: Speed, Technique and Power.
