Team Fortress 2 is set to receive a brand-new game mode called Pass Time.
Pass Time has just been released in beta form and is based on a variety of ball sports.
It’s actually the result of a new friendship between Valve and Bad Robot – JJ Abrams’ production company responsible for TV shows such as Lost and movies such as Super 8.
Pass Time is dreamed up by the Bad Robot crew and co-developed with Escalation Studios.
It combines the fast-paced bloodsport of Team Fortress 2 with the “actual fast-paced sports of soccer, hockey and basketball”.
The RED and BLU teams face off in a battle to score more goals than their opponents. You’ll need to utilise coordinated passes, aerial passes, interceptions, formations, plays and more to succeed, however.
The actual ball in Pass Time is known as the jack, which when you carry it replaces all your weapons. All teammates must work to protect the jack-carrier.
You pass and shoot with your primary fire, pick and intercept by touching the jack, and melee to steal.
If you’re the jack-carrier you’ll also receive some boosts including faster health regeneration, temporary invulnerability, a temporary speed boost and the ability to see both your teammates and your opponents on the map.

“As massive fans of all things Valve and TF2, we’ve been thrilled to work with them and the deft developers at Escalation Studios, to present this super-early look at Pass Time,” explained Bad Robot.
“And now we’re extremely excited to have the opportunity to collaborate with you, the players! Your feedback will be critical to making this mode, at very least, worthy of the game we all love.”
“Here’s hoping that, together, we can create something special that the community will enjoy as much as we’ve enjoyed just getting to this point.”
