SwiftKey Keyboard for iPhone and iPad announced

SwiftKey has officially announced SwiftKey Keyboard for iOS 8.

We actually had confirmation that the keyboard app developer was  bringing its acclaimed keyboard to Apple devices back in June, immediately following Apple’s big iOS 8 reveal.

But now the company has announced SwiftKey Keyboard’s availability on September 17 – the very day iOS 8 rolls out to existing iPhones, and two days before the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Over on the SwiftKey blog, the company has offered details to those unfamiliar with its product, which started life on Android.

It explains SwiftKey Keyboard’s ability to learn your typing style and adapt its word prediction system accordingly. It also explains how you can attach your Gmail, Facebook, and Twitter accounts to give SwiftKey Keyboard more information on the way you type.

There’s also, of course, the famous slide-to-type system that enables you to compose sentences quickly without even lifting your finger from the screen.

Of course, Apple’s new iOS 8 keyboard will adopt many of the ideas listed above, but at least you’ll now have the option. The simple fact that Apple is now allowing the use of third party keyboards with iOS 8 proved to be one of the biggest (and most pleasant) surprises of WWDC 2014.

In addition to this information, SwiftKey has released a new video showing off its iOS 8 keyboard. It’s got Stephen Fry narrating it and everything.
