Mario is finally coming to the iPhone with Super Mario Run

Apple got its ‘See You’ event off to a blockbuster start with the shock announcement that Nintendo’s iconic Mario character is finally coming to the iPhone with his very own game.

Super Mario Run, which is an iOS exclusive initially, was detailed by legendary Mario creator Shigeru Minamoto on stage during the keynote.

“Now Mario is running toward his next goal, iPhone, in a brand-new game: Super Mario Run,” Miyamoto said during a landmark appearance.

The game is a 2D platformer of yore, but this time Mario will automatically run, allowing users to play on their touchscreen iOS device with just one hand.

“In this game, you constantly move forward through the courses while using a variety of jumps to navigate. Your character will behave differently depending on the timing of your taps, so it’s up to you to show of particularly smooth moves, gather coins and reach the goal,” reads the iTunes description.

There’ll also be a new battle mode called Toad Rally where you challenge the play data of other gamers’ completed courses.

Players will also get the opportunity to create their own Mushroom Kingdom using coins collected by playing the first two game modes.

Super Mario Run will be out in time for the holidays with a set price yet to be revealed.

While we wait, Nintendo is launching some Mario stickers for the new iOS 10 Messages app.

Wow! Way to get things started, Apple…
