SteamOS gets Bluetooth and Xbox One Elite Controller support

Steam Machines and Steam OS now have support for Bluetooth and Xbox One Elite Controllers.

A new Steam OS update has been rolled out, adding two new major features to Steam Machines and other devices capable of running the Linux-based software.

Valve’s latest update to Steam OS, entitled version 2.60, adds support for the professional-grade Xbox One Elite controllers as well as Bluetooth headsets and gamepads.

The Xbox One Elite Controller will only connect via a USB cable and won’t work wirelessly, with the paddles on the back mapped to the standard ABXY face buttons.

Steam OS version 2.60 also adds a new version of the Linux kernal, security patches for included software and more.

Version 2.60 also adds a new interface for connecting to Bluetooth devices, which can be found at Settings > System > Bluetooth in the Steam Big Picture UI.

It’s still a beta feature though, so you’ll need to opt into beta updates in the Steam OS to receive it at this time.

The Bluetooth functionality adds support for wireless gaming headsets and controllers though, even the PS4 DualShock 4 according to some users in the Steam forums.

Despite the additions, Steam OS still has a long way to go. Gaming performance still lags a long way behind windows, while app support for services like Netflix and Spotify still isn’t there.

However, hopefully Valve will keep releasing upgrades until Steam OS becomes an equally attractive platform as Windows.
