Star Wars won’t be coming to Lego Dimensions, says Lego The Force Awakens’ lead story designer

Star Wars won’t be coming to Lego Dimensions, according to Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ lead story designer Graham Goring.

Fans eagerly-anticipating the release of Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens may have been hoping for the chance to buy some figurines to transfer into the world of Lego Dimensions. Unfortunately, that hope has been shot down.

In an interview with TrustedReviews, Goring was asked whether or not we could see Star Wars appear in the popular toys-to-life franchise:

“Dimensions is its own thing and I think this being a standalone product, you’re never going to see that sort of crossover with Dimensions I don’t think. I think it’s, Dimensions offers a very different thing because you have that lovely tactile building thing and it is all about that mash-up of IPs whereas this is very much, it’s Star Wars, it’s LEGO Star Wars so you know, while we may be tempted to say ‘oh, can we sneak a Doctor Who joke in there?’ No, that’s not a thing that’s going to happen, even though I love Doctor Who. So it’s very much it’s own beast.”

When asked further if we will see Star Wars appear as additional toys for Lego Dimensions, Goring replied “I don’t think so”.

While the news may disappoint some, Goring did offer a glimmer of optimism by stating he would be interested in re-releasing the original Lego Star Wars games.

The original Lego Star Wars launched 11 years ago as a tie-in for the prequel trilogy, while it’s been a decade since we saw a Lego adaptation of the original trilogy. When asked by TR about re-releasing the games on current-gen consoles, Goring replied “I mean, I don’t know, it’d be nice to update [the original LEGO Star Wars] given how long ago it was we made that”.
