Bowie released his final album Blackstar on 8 January, before losing what an official statement referred to as "a courageous 18-month battle with cancer" two days later on Sunday.

His boost in streaming numbers, while impressive, is decidedly lower than many other artists whose music saw a rise in popularity following their death.

BB King streaming increased by 9,800% following his death in May 2015, with Lou Reed tracks seeing a 3,000% rise after the artist's death in October 2013.
