Spotify comes to Amazon Fire TV ahead of UK release date

Spotify has announced the release of its music streaming app for the Amazon Fire TV set-top box.

The Spotify Connect app allows millions of tracks to be streamed from the company’s iOS and Android apps, which in this case, act like a remote control for the Fire TV.

Unfortunately, the free streaming element offered through the mobile apps is not included in this deal as access to Spotify Connect requires a £9.99 month subscription to Spotify Premium.

For their cash users will be able to easily transfer music from their mobile device to their television sets, while incoming calls and messages will not interrupt the playback experience.

Importantly users won’t even need to be in Wi-Fi range as the mobile app will sync with its counterpart on the Amazon Fire TV.

“Using Spotify Connect on your Amazon Fire TV allows you to control your music using the Spotify app on your mobile or tablet,” the company wrote on its blog on Monday.

“You can seamlessly switch your favorite music from your mobile to the TV and continue to make calls, use other smartphone apps and go out of Wi-Fi range, all without interrupting the music.”

The launch of Spotify Connect on the Fire TV gives Amazon’s set-top box another string to its bow ahead of the expansion into the UK next month.

The device is available to pre-order now for £79 ahead of the October 23 release date. Will the presence of Spotify impact your decision on whether snap up a Fire TV box? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
