Last June Virgin Media announced a deal with Spotify had
been inked and at the end of October the company launched the new service
offering some customers up to six months free Spotify streaming.
Those customers who have now signed up to the Spotify
service through Virgin Media have one more way of accessing their favourite
tunes. From today TiVo customers will begin to see a Spotify app appearing on
their apps menu.
The app will only let those with a Spotify Premium account
access the music through the TiVo service with all the same features as the
Spotify app on your smartphone.
Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at
Virgin Media said: “The world of digital entertainment is continually changing
and we’re always looking at ways we can bring our customers the best
entertainment for their whole families. Our goal to deliver a truly unique
experience for our customers and we’re really excited about bringing Spotify to
our TiVo service as part of our ongoing initiatives to develop the platform
further with new features, applications and content.”
The Spotify partnership will see new Virgin Media broadband
customers signing up to the 30Mb, 50Mb or 100Mb services or existing customers
of these services who sign a new 12-month contract getting six months free
TiVo customers will have noticed that their service has been
given an update in the past week or so, with the addition of new apps, easier
series link settings and the ability to access BBC catch-up services directly
from the EPG.
As well as offering deals to their broadband customers,
Virgin are offering new mobile customers a free month of Spotify Premium and
customers will be able to stream or download Spotify music through their Virgin
Mobile without using any of their mobile data allowance, eliminating any data
charges when streaming music on the go.
