Don't even try and tell me this isn't big news.
Apple has just released its MacBook Air, and I couldn’t care less because I know of a much more interesting Apple-related development. Sure the Air is thin, but is it Spore? I thought not. And guess what, in addition to bringing Spore to the Wii, creator and near-God Will Wright has now announced his intention to port what many are expecting to be his magnum opus to the Mac too.
As current games for the Mac consist primarily of The Sims, World of Warcraft, Age of Empires, some other Sims spin off and World of Warcraft – and some Sims – it has to be admitted that bringing what promises to be a completely fresh style of gaming to the platform can only be for the good. Personally I still consider Will Wright’s genre-defining SimCity (now open source – i.e. free under the name of Metropolis) one of the finest games ever made, and often use it to pass away a train or car journey; as a passenger of course.
No release date is set for Spore but the press release does talk about the game coming out “later this year”, which means we can guess within 350 days when it will come out – assuming no delays which given the game’s current track record aren’t unlikely. Nonetheless if you own a Mac, wish to play games and want those games to be good games then the porting of Spore is news to get very excited about, so stop reading this and start salivating instead.
