Nintendo has announced that Splatoon has sold through a total of 1 million copies across Europe, bringing worldwide sales to 3.5 million.
“Reaching one million sales for Splatoon in Europe is testament to the universal appeal of this brand new kind of shooter, which everyone can play and enjoy,” said Nintendo of Europe president Satoru Shibata.
“With varied titles like Splatoon, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, and Super Mario Maker already available, and titles including Pokkén Tournament, Paper Mario: Color Splash and Star Fox Zero on the way, the diverse lineup of games exclusively available on Wii U is going from strength to strength.”

This sales milestone accompanies a new software update, which aims to make changes to the game’s matchmaking and Splatfest events.
Another update set to debut in April will introduce a selection of new weapons known as Sheldon’s Picks, inspired by the game’s weapons vendor.
Splatoon has proven to be hugely popular since its release in May 2015, providing a unique twist on the multiplayer shooter genre.
Considering its success, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a sequel on the Nintendo NX.
