An as yet unannounced Sony Yuga smartphone has leaked online with images and specs of the mooted Android 4.1 Jelly Bean handset suggesting the device will launch with a 5-inch 1920 x 1080p display.

According to a selection of pictures posted on Swiss blog AndroidSchweiz, the unconfirmed device will land sporting the title of the Sony C6603, or the Sony Yuga. Claimed benchmarks have reportedly shown that the Sony Yuga will be bestowed with a 5-inch, 1080p Full HD display, Google’s Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean OS and a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, most likely a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4. On top of this, the seemingly high-end handset is said to sport 2GB of RAM and a 12-megapixel camera on the rear.

What’s more, the Sony Yuga is said to have a unibody enclosure, meaning that there is no access to the battery. But there is a microSD slot and a micro HDMI output.

Assuming the Sony Yuga is a real in-development smartphone and not an elaborate fake, we wouldn’t expect it to be revealed until early 2013 – perhaps at the Las Vegas CES conference in January or the Barcelona based Mobile World Congress the following month.

The Sony Yuga would slot into the range of Android phones at an interesting point, slightly larger and more hi-res than the likes of the Google Nexus 4 and HTC One X, but more portable (and more like a standard smartphone) than the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

What do you think of the leaked Sony Yuga images and specs? Are you convinced or do you think Sony is coming too late in the game to tempt you away from the Nexus 4, Samsung Galaxy S3 or HTC One X?
