Sony Xperia Z4 Ultra leaks as 6.4-inch QHD phablet

Size isn’t everything, but someone clearly forgot to mention that to Sony as the Xperia Z4 Ultra leaks with a 6.4-inch QHD display in tow.

Although the Sony Xperia Z4 isn’t expected to launch until Q1 2015, the Ultra has already popped up as the flagship phone’s oversized sibling.

This isn’t just your standard – specs restricted – spinoff either. On paper, the mooted device looks set to take the oversized smartphone space to new heights.

Citing an unnamed insider source, AndroidOrigin has reported that the Sony Xperia Z4 Ultra will echo the same 2560 x 1440 pixel QHD resolution as handsets such as the LG G3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 – albeit on a far larger, 6.4-inch scale.

Although Sony has previously dabbled in the super-sized smartphone space – 2013 saw the release of the original Sony Xperia Z Ultra – the company has overlooked such a device this year.

Further Z4 Ultra specs are currently sparse, although it has been suggested the device will be part of a larger, Z4 branded, family of products.

As well as the flagship Z4 and pocket-stretching Z4 Ultra, a Z4 tablet and Z4 Compact smartphone have also been tipped for an early 2015 release.

With the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact having only just made it to retailers’ shelves, the device’s 2015 follow-on will reportedly retain the same 4.6-inch form factor while jumping to a 1080p, Full HD display.

Given Sony has yet to formally acknowledge plans for such a device, we must suggest these leaks are taken with a pinch of salt for now.

Is a 6.4-inch smartphone too big or are you happy to blur the lines between phone and tablet? Let us know via the comments section below.

I have the Z Ultra and I assure you it isn't that overly large, yes it is larger than your average flagship smartphone but I just love the size. It's great for playing games, Web browsing, watching movies, doing your work and also using it as a dedicated satellite navigation device. It's just the best device I could have purchased and, oh yes, it's still portable.

I concur. 5" or 5.2" is not large. I would not get anything smaller!

Yes, hurray!!! It is a piece of great news to learn that Sony is looking into launching a 2nd generation of Sony Experia Z Ultra
phablet 6.4". I can't wait to purchase it. It is not big at all in terms of the size as it is between the devices of mobile and tablet. It is just a two-in-one device which will definitely benefit and convenient the potential customers who are on mobile most of the time as well as on the go.

Seriously can't wait any longer. Truly hope that Sony will launch it very soon.
Many thanks.

Well I have been interested in Sony's line but have been fan of the Note line from Samsung. The Ultra caught my eye but Sony's bezel has been a turnoff for me. If the render that leaked is even close to what they are looking to release then they have my attention. I look forward to seeing what they come out with.

Smoothest, fastest phone I've ever owned. Sony's iteration of Android is the best out there - beating even true Android.
