Size isn’t everything, but someone clearly forgot to mention that to Sony as the Xperia Z4 Ultra leaks with a 6.4-inch QHD display in tow.
Although the Sony Xperia Z4 isn’t expected to launch until Q1 2015, the Ultra has already popped up as the flagship phone’s oversized sibling.
This isn’t just your standard – specs restricted – spinoff either. On paper, the mooted device looks set to take the oversized smartphone space to new heights.
Citing an unnamed insider source, AndroidOrigin has reported that the Sony Xperia Z4 Ultra will echo the same 2560 x 1440 pixel QHD resolution as handsets such as the LG G3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 – albeit on a far larger, 6.4-inch scale.
Although Sony has previously dabbled in the super-sized smartphone space – 2013 saw the release of the original Sony Xperia Z Ultra – the company has overlooked such a device this year.
Further Z4 Ultra specs are currently sparse, although it has been suggested the device will be part of a larger, Z4 branded, family of products.
As well as the flagship Z4 and pocket-stretching Z4 Ultra, a Z4 tablet and Z4 Compact smartphone have also been tipped for an early 2015 release.
With the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact having only just made it to retailers’ shelves, the device’s 2015 follow-on will reportedly retain the same 4.6-inch form factor while jumping to a 1080p, Full HD display.
Given Sony has yet to formally acknowledge plans for such a device, we must suggest these leaks are taken with a pinch of salt for now.
