Following yesterday’s spec leak, an image of the Sony Xperia Z2 tablet has appeared on the internet.
The original Sony Xperia Tablet Z was released in May 2013, when its slim design and strong performance drew widespread praise.
We’re expecting to see the follow-up at the MWC 2014 show in Barcelona at the end of the month. According to @evleaks, the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet will look like this.
As you can see, it appears to be very similar to the original Xperia Z2 tablet, with a familiar sharp-cornered design. It also appears to be running Android 4.4 KitKat.
This leak follows yesterday’s spec spill from the same source. Apparently, the Z2 tablet will run on a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 3GB of RAM.
It’s said to run on the same 10.1-inch 1920 x 1200p resolution display as its predecessor, which is a bit of a shame, as that wasn’t the sharpest tablet in town even nine months ago.
More impressive is the suggestion that Sony has managed to slice some meat away from its already skinny body – it’s down from 6.9mm to just 6.4mm thick.
Expect 16GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot for expansion purposes. We should also see a 8-megapixel camera around back, along with a 2-megapixel front-facing unit, which sounds like another area in which it matches the original.
The Xperia Z2 tablet should run on a 6000mAh battery, and it’s claimed that the tablet will retain its water and dust-resistant properties.
It’s looking like a moderate spruce up of Sony’s flagship tablet, then, but we’ll know for sure at next week’s official unveiling.
