Sony Xperia Z2 release date delayed at several UK retailers

The Sony Xperia Z2 release date has been delayed at several retailers following rumours of production complications.

Taking a look at the expected delivery dates for the Xperia Z2 at a variety of UK retailers and network providers, it seems that there is some truth to the rumours.

Sony originally stated that the Xperia Z2 release date would occur on April 10, but it looks like no UK stockist will be able to meet that schedule.

The Sony Mobile website itself still lists the Xperia Z2 as “coming soon”, with no exact arrival date listed whatsoever.

Of those UK retailers and network providers listing an arrival date for a brand new Xperia Z2, Phones 4u comes the closest to the original release date with an April 11 shipping date.

Carphone Warehouse claims expected delivery dates will only start from the week commencing  April 14, while O2 lists a shipping date of April 28 at the earliest.

Three doesn’t even expect to have any Xperia Z2 stock until May 1.

Several retailers originally suggested the release had been moved back to May, but Sony said it is still on track for April.

However, earlier this month Sony admitted that it didn’t expect to meet the stock demand for the Xperia Z2, unless you’ve pre-ordered the device already.

“Xperia Z2 will be available in the UK during April and we are expecting to deliver to all consumers who have placed a pre-order through our key partners”, said Sony in a statement to TrustedReviews. “We are working tirelessly to maximise stock levels in April but currently we do not expect to meet the high demand across all our sales channels.”

Although Sony states that the stocking issues are down to high demand, there were rumours Sony is suffering from a “component manufacturing issue from a third party” partner, but Sony hasn’t confirmed this yet.

Similar issues were had with the iPhone 5S when it was originally released, where consumers had to wait weeks after the release date to actually get their hands on the new iOS flagship.
