Sony Xperia Z2 leaks suggest superior camera features

Leaked screenshots from the Sony Xperia Z2 suggest Sony’s first 2014 flagship will offer superior camera features.

Expected to be released during MWC 2014, the Sony Xperia Z2 should offer some improved camera functionality over its predecessor.

A batch of leaked screenshots from the Xperia Z2’s camera app has revealed some enhanced photographic features.

Although the hardware is expected to remain the same, with the Z2 matching the 20.7-megapixel rear camera of the Sony Xperia Z1, it seems Sony will tweak the smartphone’s camera software to make the most of its high-resolution snapper.

From the screenshots, it seems the Z2 is capable of shooting full 1080p HD videos at 60fps, which is double that of the full HD 30fps functionality of the Z1.

There is also a new mode for shooting 15.5-megapixel stills, adding a new level from the Xperia Z1’s 8-megapixel and 20.7-megapixel options.

Apparently the Xperia Z2 is also capable of recording 4K video, but there’s no mention of it in these screenshots, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will not be featured.

In fact, some suggest the 4K video functionality, along with Timeshift video, creative effects and other features will arrive in the form of separate apps.

Camera specs aside, the Xperia Z2 should have a 5.25-inch 2K 2,560 x 1,440p display running on a quad-core 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and 3GB of RAM.

The Xperia Z2 should also feature Android 4.4 KitKat and introduce a Xenon flash to the rear camera, rather than the LED version used in the Xperia Z1.

Both phones will most likely look very similar when the Z2 is eventually launched, with the Z1’s waterproof and dustproof qualities making the jump to the Z2 as well.
