Sony has officially unveiled the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, a 4.3-inch version of the Xperia Z1 at CES 2014 in Las Vegas.
It has the exact same look and design as the Z1 aside from a smaller 4.3-inch screen, down 0.7-inches, and a 720p resolution (341PPI) as opposed to the full-HD. The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is a high spec phone, comparable to flagship phones from other manufacturers as opposed to the lower spec HTC One mini and Samsung Galaxy S4 mini.
The Xperia Z1 Compact comes packing the Snapdragon 800 quad-core SoC processor at 2.2GHz with 2GB RAM and 16GB of on-board storage as well as a 64GB capable microSD slot, making the Z1 Compact one of the most powerful phones with screen that’s less than 5-inches.
The solid 20.7 megapixel camera on the Z1 is also included but the battery is reduced at 2300mAh. Sony claims battery life will be equivalent to the bigger Z1, though, because the screen is smaller and the resolution lower.
Including all the higher spec components has meant that the Z1 Compact is 1mm thicker than the Z1 and weighs a solid 140g.
It will be available in 4 colours: white, black, lime and pink and is expected to be released at the end of February. Pricing has not yet been announced although Sony has confirmed that the Xperia Z1 Compact will be cheaper than the 5-inch Xperia Z1.
