Sony Xperia Z and Sony Xperia ZL pictures officially leaked

Xperia Z ZL

Images of the forthcoming Sony Xperia Z and the Sony Xperia ZL have been leaked through the manufacturer's own website.

Press shots of the Sony Xperia Z and the Sony Xperia ZL are now available on the official Sony Mobile website, showing them both in all their head-on glory. These devices are making a showing a week ahead of their likely CES debut.

Images and details of the Sony Xperia Z have leaked before (and rather less officially) under its code name of Yuga. It's set to boast a 5-inch full HD (1080p) display, placing it in the same category as the HTC DLX and the forthcoming Huawei Ascend Mate.

The Android Jelly Bean-equipped Sony Xperia Z will also feature a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, which is likely to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, and 2GB of RAM. Reports of a 12 or 13-megapixel camera have also been made, continuing Sony's typically strong mobile photography showing.

In addition to these impressive specs, the Sony Xperia Z is rumoured to feature an enclosed unibody chassis, like the HTC One X and the Nokia Lumia 920. It will also have a microSD slot and a micro HDMI output.

As for the Sony Xperia ZL, it appears to be a smaller variant of the Z. Engadget speculates that it could well incorporate many of the same internal specs, but with a smaller display. Unusually, the front-facing camera appears to be situated to the bottom of the device.

If the build quality is better than the Sony usual, one of these will surely be my next handset. I don't want iOS nor Windows Phone 8, I like Android but would like a premium handset. Come on Sony, you can do it!

Are they having issues with build quality? I haven't looked closely (or even held?) a sony android handset. Just guessed they would be one of the better ones.

I always just wonder how they are gonna mess up the software, still scarred from trying to use their minidisc software SonicStage.

Compared to Nokia and Apple the hardware can feel a little cheap. I just wish their flagship phones were premium and then the rest can be 'plasticky'
The way Sony skins Android is probably better than the rest, the Walkman software is great, and the beauty of Android is that is so open and you can always replace any undesirable software. The caveat here is that Sony only provide updates for about a year and you can wait several months for them. It's no Nexus, that's for sure.

Interesting to see this - I hate the skin that Sony put on Android, although it has been markedly better in the later iterations (as it hasn't been so heavy).

With the rumours around Sony making a Nexus device in the future....these phones could be important to see if they are putting the specs and quality components to live up to the designs (something I think they have always been good at).

Quality is less than Apple more than Samsung, as simple as that
