Sony Xperia Tablet Z price to rival Apple iPad

Sony has shown off its new Sony Xperia Tablet Z, with a specs list and price tag that will bring the 10.1-inch slate in line with the Apple iPad 4 and Samsung Galaxy Note tablets.

Already unveiled in Japan, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z has made its debut at MWC 2013, boasting a 10.1-inch 1920 x 1200p resolution WUXGA display and a quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM to boot.

Set to appear during Q2 in the UK, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z will be offered at a fairly reasonable price of £399 for the Wi-Fi only version, whilst the 4G/LET option will set Sony fans back £499. This will match the Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi and cellular options offered by Apple for the iPad 4.

“Xperia Tablet Z sets new standards in entertainment by matching premium specifications and Sony technology with cross-device connectivity and a consistent user-experience,” said Corporate Vice President and Head of UX Creative Design and Planning at Sony Mobile Communications, Kaz Tajima.

“Xperia Tablet Z reinforces our intention to be a leading player in the premium Android device market, by building on the principles established by Xperia Z and perfectly optimizing them for the tablet form factor.”

Offering the latest Google OS, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, internal storage options for the Sony Xperia Tablet Z but with an integrated microSD slot, this can be expanded to 64GB.

In the rear, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z offers an 8-megapixel camera in the rear capable of shooting 1080p video, and a 2.2-megapixel front-facing camera, both with Sony’s low light technology, Exmor R and Superior Auto.
