Sony Xperia SL Officially Revealed - Improved CPU and Ice Cream Sandwich Included

Sony has finally unveiled the Sony Xperia SL a couple of weeks after it was leaked. The device looks to be a subtle reworking of the Sony Xperia S.

Those rumours were true, it seems. The Sony Xperia SL will come with a souped up 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S3 processor. The original Sony Xperia S had a 1.5GHz CPU, so it’s not a massive upgrade in truth.

One notable upgrade from the old device will be the addition of Android Ice Cream Sandwich, bringing things more or less up to date (though Jelly Bean is now out and making its presence felt). The SL also offers a new choice of colours - silver or pink - in addition to the usual black or white.

Other than this, the Sony Xperia SL is much the same. It has a 4.3-inch HD display with a 342 ppi pixel density, making it one of the sharpest displays to be found on any smartphone.

The Sony Xperia SL will also keep the S’s 12-megapixel camera with Sony’s Exmor R image sensor for improved low light shots.

Another point to note is that the Sony Xperia SL is a PlayStation Certified device, which means it will run Sony’s recently confirmed PlayStation Mobile titles, as well as a bunch of PS1 classics.

The Sony Xperia SL is listed as ‘Coming Soon’ on the official Sony Mobile website, and could prove to be a good bet if you find the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the HTC One X too big for comfort.
