Sony has announced on its official blog that it is rolling out an Android 4.0 update for the Xperia S.
Available to download through the phone itself or from the Sony website, the update will be arriving on handsets over the coming weeks and will bring with it a host of big improvements.
Most significant is the core upgrade from Android 2.3 to Android 4.0, which is a slicker, faster and more feature rich version of the software. But Sony has added plenty of its own too, with the Walkman, Album and Movies apps all bringing social and interface enhancements to playing your music, viewing pictures and watching videos - you can see all the new features in the video below.
The roll out will be staggered so it may be a few weeks before everyone gets the update but users will be notified on the device when the update is available.
When we reviewed the Sony Xperia S, it's lack of Android 4.0 was one of the key shortfalls we noted so this update arriving should prove a big boost to users of the device. We'll be sure to get the phone in again to take a second look with its new update.
