Sony is set to launch three new handsets at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and an image of one of those, strangely codenamed Kumquat, has been leaked online.
The image has been sent to xperiablog.net and shows a phone which looks remarkably similar to the Sony Xperia S which was unveiled at CES earlier this month. However Sony has said that the next batch of Xperia handsets would follow on, in the design terms, where the Xperia S began.
This is most obviously seen in the transparent notification strip seen running along the bottom of the phone in the picture. Specs for the phone are otherwise a bit thin on the ground, but it is believed to have a 3.5in screen, a 1GHz processor and a five megapixel camera.
If these specs turn out to be accurate, the Kumquat, or ST25i Kumquat as it also known, will sit firmly in the budget section of the Xperia line up.
A leaked roadmap for Sony smartphones recently detailed three unannounced phones – the LT22i Nypon, MT27i Pepper and ST25i Kumquat – which are slated for a Q2 2012 release, which means we’ll be getting to see them first at Mobile World Congress at the end of February – when hopefully they'll all get new names.
