Sony Worldwide boss Shuhei Yoshida would “like to see” The Last of Us 2 at some point in the future

It turns we aren’t the only ones who would love to see a sequel to The Last of Us.

Sony Worldwide Entertainment boss Shuhei Yoshida expressed his interest in the project at EGX this past weekend.

Speaking with Eurogamer during EGX 2015, Yoshida said there is nothing to announce, but developer Naughty Dog is toying with potential ideas for the sequel.

“I asked [community strategist Arne Meyer] that question last night over dinner. We haven’t confirmed The Last of Us 2, but ever since the launch of the first game, people like [creative director Neil Druckmann] are talking about some ideas for a potential sequel, some experiments that they want to do,” said Yoshida.

At the moment there are merely “talks around development”, but Yoshida would “like to see” how the characters and story of the original game could be developed.

This also confirms comments made by Neil Druckmann last month to the Official PlayStation Magazine, when he said Naughty Dog was “brainstorming ideas for The Last of Us 2.”

There were even rumours that a prototype for The Last of Us 2 was in development before the team moved onto Uncharted 4.

Prototypes should probably be taken with a grain of salt though, since large companies could have dozens in the works at any given point.

The Last of Us 2 could go in so many potential directions when you consider where the original left off.

It could introduce a whole new cast of characters in a different part of the world, or expand upon the story of Joel and Ellie.

In other Naughty Dog related news, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection will launch on 9 October for PS4.

The Last of Us Remastered is only £14.39 on the PlayStation Store right now for PS Plus members too.
