Sony sets October 9 event to introduce US to Xperia Z3

Sony has announced it is planning a media event in New York City on October 9.

Speculation suggests the firm will use the soiree to launch the Sony Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact and the Xperia Tablet Z3 Compact.

The firm announced the devices for Europe at the IFA tech show earlier this month, but availability across the Atlantic is yet to be detailed.

The T-Mobile network recently confirmed it plans to sell the device, while the Sprint network is also thought to be on board.

A Sony spokesperson has declined to other further details on the matter, but it would be a surprise if a new, unannounced device was involved.

The flagship Xperia Z3 has a 5.2-inch full HD display, a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM and a 3,100mAh battery.

The slim, 8-inch Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, which offers Remote Play via the Sony PS4, brings the 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB RAM and a 4,500mAh battery.

Finally, the Xperia Z3 Compact has a 4.6-inch display, also boasts PS4 Remote Play support, rocks a 20.7-megapixel, has the highest waterproof rating and a two-day battery life.

Will the Xperia devices be a hit with consumers stateside? Share your thoughts below.
