Sony PlayStation VR could be the key for virtual-reality porn

A porn production company has identified the Sony PlayStation VR headset as the crucial device for the proliferation of virtual-reality smut.

Speaking to Wareable, the CIO of Naughty America says PlayStation gamers and porn connoisseurs are an overlapping demographic.

Ian Paul says the company is counting on Sony not to blacklist adult content when the PlayStation VR launches in 2016.

He said: “I’m more concerned about Sony.

The gaming demographic is pretty much the same as our demographic. If Sony could support it all, it would be a slam-dunk win. The company would have the gamers and the adult entertainment viewers and it would be perfect.”

Currently, Naughty America’s VR content is available via the Google Cardboard headsets, the Oculus Rift and Samsung’s Gear VR, albeit through the website rather than through dedicated apps.

However, the filth peddler appears to be concerned that Sony won’t go all the way, so to speak, based on its past experience with the porn industry.

Paul added: “The company has been burnt twice by us. First by VHS and Betamax, then Blu-ray versus HD-DVD. It lost with Betamax because it didn’t support adult entertainment. Sony almost lost with Blu-ray at the last hour and then decided to support it. The company has been burnt twice, so you’d hope that the organisation would learn.”

With Apple’s rumoured interest in the VR sector, Ian Paul isn’t anticipating any support for VR porn from an ecosystem built in Cupertino.

“I imagine that Apple will be very closed in their device. That’s typically how Apple is. I don’t know how it’s going to balance that.”

Speaking at last month’s MWC expo, Paul said up to 20 million people per month are expected to view VR porn in some form by the end of 2016.
