New models take pictures with innovative "Smile Shutter".
There are yet more new cameras for August as Sony announces three new compact models, ahead of a big media even next week which is expected to see the launch of two new digital SLRs. The new compact cameras are the T70, T200 and H3.
”’Cyber Shot T70 and T200”’
Sony’s T-series of stylish ultra-slim compact cameras has won regular praise, not least for the excellent T100. The T200 is the new flagship of the fleet, with an 8.1 megapixel sensor, a massive 3.5-in widescreen 16:9 LCD monitor, Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 5x optical zoom lens, Super Steady Shot optical image stabilisation, 3200 ISO maximum sensitivity and a video output mode featuring HD1080 image display. The T70 shares the same specification, but has a 3-in widescreen LCD and a 3x zoom lens.
Both models feature touch-screen operation, with an interesting sounding system whereby the focus point can be set by tapping the screen, and face detection mode can be activated by touching a face on the screen.
They also have a unique “Smile Shutter” system, in which the face detection system can detect when a selected face in the frame smiles and then take a picture automatically. Up to six shots can be taken this way without pressing the shutter button, ideal for those group shots for which a self-timer would normally be used.
The T70 and T200 go on sale in September 2007, although pricing details have yet to be released.
”’Cyber Shot H3”’
The new Cyber Shot H3 is a new style model featuring an SLR-like body with a rugged textured finish. Its specification includes an impressive-looking o Carl Zeiss 10x optical zoom lens (38-380mm equivalent; F3.5-4.4), an 8.1-megapixel sensor with BIONZ image processor, Super SteadyShot image stabilisation, ISO 3200 maximum sensitivity, Dynamic Range Optimiser, face detection and an advanced sports mode with 1/2000th sec shutter speed and predictive AF.
Like the two T-series cameras the H3 also has a video output mode featuring HD1080 image display. It has A range of in-camera retouching functions including red eye reduction, picture trimming and four new filter effects. The H3 is also compatible with a range of accessories including converter lenses and a GPS location recorder. The cameras measures 106.0mm x 68.5mm x 47.5mm and weighs 246g. It will be available in September, but again no pricing details have yet been revealed.
