Only a few weeks ago Sony launched three new compact cameras in its Cyber-Shot line-up, all with more megapixels than you could shake a stick at. Today the company is focusing on offering big zoom in slim bodies with the launch of eight new Cyber-Shot models.
We’ve picked out the headline grabbing models for you below, all of which will launch between March and May this year with Sony not announcing pricing but it did tell us it expects the range to sell for between £180 and £480.
Sony Cyber-Shot HX20V
The HX20V features a large 18.2 megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor combined with a huge 20x optical zoom. However this has not added too much bulk thanks to the new Advanced Aspherical (AA) lens which boosts zoom range while allowing a far smaller lens body. It is capable of 1080p video recording, as well as capturing 3D images and claims to have a very quick autofocus of 0.13 seconds in daylight and 0.21 seconds in low-light.
Alongside the HX20V, Sony has launched the Cyber-Shot HX10V which is essentially the same camera featuring the same 18.2 megapixel sensor but with only 16x optical zoom. The HX20V will be available in mid-May in the UK while the cheaper HX10V will be available from mid-April.
Sony Cyber-Shot WX100
The claim to fame for the WX100 is that it is the world’s slimmest and lightest camera to offer 10x optical zoom thanks again to the new AA lens. The WX100 is just 17.5mm thick at its slimmest point and weighs just 108g.
It also features the 18.2 megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor combined with Sony’s BIONZ processing engine. The WX100 will be available in the UK in mid-May. Sony has also launched the Cyber-Shot WX150 which is the same as the WX100 but with a larger 3in LCD screen on the rear.
Sony Cyber-Shot TX20
Every manufacturer nowadays has a rugged waterproof camera line and Sony is no different and has just announced the latest in its range, the TX20. This tough little compact is water resistant to a depth of 5 metres, freeze proof, dust proof and will survive drops from heights of 1.5m
The TX20 comes with the same 18.2 megapixel sensor as the HX20V and WX100 but will offer just 4x optical zoom. The TX20 will also be available in mid-May.
Sony Cyber-Shot HX200V
Sony’s latest superzoom the HX200V offers a huge 30x optical zoom and combines this with Sony’s BIONZ processor and a large 18.2 megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor. It also features a 3in 920k dot LCD screen on the rear, Full HD video recording, high-speed autofocus, 3D capture, and includes GPS functionality to help tag your images.
Sony Cyber-Shot W690
The W690 features the same AA lens seen in the WX100 and HX20V and offers 10x optical zoom and in combination with the enhanced optical SteadyShot technology should give better stills and video. The camera, which is launched in mid-May, also features a 360 degree sweep panorama and iAuto to make setting up a shot very easy.
