Plenty of space for those high res holiday memories.
Just announced this week is the ‘HDR-SR5’ from proprietary king Sony. Unlike most of its rivals this is a storage monster with a huge 40GB internal hard drive which will come in useful since it can switch between recording in either high (AVCHD) or standard definition (Sony calculates five hours in HD, up to 14 in SD or 27 hours in Long Play).
Like most Sony products these days the HDR-SR5 features a Carl Zeiss lens (this a 37mm one from the Vario-Sonnar T stable) with massive 10x optical zoom as well as a 2.7in wide touchscreen flip out display. Connectivity is good too with both HDMI and S-Video making an appearance with a Memory Stick Duo slot also appears and photos can be set to save directly to it for easy access.
The HDR-SR5 goes on sale immediately in the US for $1,099.99 and while Sony has yet to grace us with a UK launch date or sticker price I’m guessing we won’t have to wait around long for either…
”’Update:”’ A 60GB edition called the HDR-SR7 should follow up the SR5 any minute. Pesky little critters.
