New Walkman & Cybershot phones are go.
Sony Ericsson has been a bit quiet of late but it has blasted back onto the scene this month with no less than four new handsets.
Foremost among them is the eagerly awaited W880 Walkman phone (top) of which SE has been leaking (s)obscure(/s) hype building photography for the past week. On paper the handset isn’t that revolutionary – 94mm thick, 2MP camera, QVGA screen – but its brushed stainless steel exterior should appeal to (s)estate agents(/s) (s)stock brokers(/s) style freaks.
That said a 1GB Memory Stick Micro (M2) card is provided in the box and there’s plenty of stamina with the W880 capable of playing 20 hours of music or providing six hours 30 minutes of talk time off a single charge. It’ll be here in Q1 but no carriers have been announced.
Also making waves is the W610 (above) a second quad band Walkman phone also sporting a 2MP camera, QVGA screen and M2 expansion slot (512MB card bundled). Battery life is even better here getting up to 25 hours continuous music playback or seven hours natter time. Again look for it sometime in Q1.
Gathering rather less headlines are the K810 (left) and K550 (right) Cybershot phones which were more surreptitiously announced at the same time. The K810 is a 17mm thick 3.2MP shooter with autofocus and Xenon flash while the K550 is capable of 2MP but measures just 14mm and is i- mode compatible. M2 memory cards are again their expansion of choice.
The K810 is 3G compatible so it also carried a second VGA camera while the K550 is quad band/EDGE only. The pair will appear on shelves from Q2.
So – all-in-all – not as exciting as Sony Ericsson had led us to believe but I’m sure they will still float many a boat.
