Sony: Early Xbox One release date ‘not an advantage’

Ahead of the upcoming next-gen console battle, Sony has claimed that Xbox One release date is ‘not an advantage’ for Microsoft despite preceding the UK PS4 arrival by a week.

With the Xbox One release date having been confirmed for November 22, Sony has defended its later console arrival, with the UK PS4 release date set for seven days later on November 29. The PS4 release date is two weeks earlier in the US, preceding the Xbox One and touching down on November 15.

Despite the delayed UK PS4 release date seeing the console land after its bitter rival, Sony has claimed it has not handed Microsoft an advantage in doing so.

I don’t think seven days is going to have an advantage or disadvantage,” Sony’s UK Managing Director of the PlayStation division said of the two console launches. “I think it’s a moot point really, we’re effectively launching at the same time,” the Sony head stated.

With demand for both the Xbox One and PS4 expected to exceed supply ahead of the lucrative Christmas period, Gara has looked ahead to the long game stating: “This is not a sprint, this is a marathon.”

Although the PS4 will hit UK retailers after the Xbox One, the Sony branded console has already won over fans by lining up a full £80 cheaper than the competition.

Again despite this seeming advantage, Gara has played down how beneficial this will be to the company, stating that “price isn’t everything.”

Discussing the lower PS4 price he stated: “It’s an advantage, but it can move over time. Value to the consumer is everything, which is price and quality of content for that price. We feel in very good shape on that front. We’re really pleased.”
