Sony certainly likes teaser trailers and having had relative success with the oddball teasers for its tablets, it’s back with a teaser trailer for something called Dot Switch.
As you can see in the video below, the new device/app/service has something to do with universal remote controls. The video shows what looks like a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc smartphone being used to switch on a variety of devices including a gramophone, TV, air canons and lights.
The video ends with the phone being used to control a robot arm, which reveals a unknown black device sitting on a silver platter. While we don’t know what this device will be, our best guess is that it will have something to do with infrared remote controls.
Sony’s recently launched Tablet S had integrated IR and a lot of phones launched in Japan also include the feature. The video ends with the promise of "new entertainment from Sony" on 21 February, which coincidentally is the day before Sony launches the PS Vita in Europe and the US.
We’ll have to wait a month or so to find out what Sony has in store, but we’d like to hear from you about what you think Sony could be planning to launch next year. Let us know in the comments below.
