Sony has dropped the biggest hint yet that it is working on original TV productions for its PlayStation Network.

The company has just posted details of such a service over on an advertising-focused website. In addition to established services such as PSN’s What’s New banner and the like, a new heading title Original Series has popped up.

Click on this and a Sony Pictures logo appears, accompanied by the following text.

"From the #1 studio worldwide, Sony Pictures, comes a series of original shows ranging from comedy to reality to sports," it reads. "PlayStation Productions is dedicated to bringing high quality, professionally produced content to the PlayStation Network. Sponsorship and product integration opportunities are available upon request."

This calls to mind our report back in July, when Sony renewed its trademark for the PlayStation TV brand. This time, it was for a service rather than for a physical product, leading many to speculate that Sony could be planning a Netflix-like subscription service.

At the time, Sony CEO Andrew House commented that "with 110 million PlayStation Network accounts worldwide, that’s a substantial business opportunity for Sony Pictures to reach a different audience."

Sure enough, Sony Pictures CEO Michael Lynton appeared on stage during the PS4 E3 press conference to talk about the opportunity for original TV content on the new console - as well as PS3 and PS Vita, of course.

It would also be a means to provide early access to Sony Pictures content for PSN users.
