Is this the end of 1080p at home? Are we now in the age of
4K, never to go back? Probably not quite yet, but the announcement from Sony today of its
first home-cinema 4K projector certainly heralds the coming of the new standard.
Cinema-goers have been benefitting from Sony’s 4K technology
for many years now, but the unveiling of the VPL-VM1000ES signals the shift of
the 4K standard into the home.
According to Sony, the new projector will be able to create
a whopping 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast thanks to an SXRD 4K panel and Iris3
The VW1000ES will be able to throw 2,000 lumens of light
onto a 200in screen as well as being able to up scale SD or HD, and 2D to 3D to
4K quality – so you can enjoy all your old movies on a scale never before seen.
“The VPL-VW1000ES is just the
latest in a complete series of Sony home projectors. Last year at IFA, Sony
model. Most recently, the VPL-VW95ES was announced at IFA as a mid-level 3D home projector option. And
