Sony announces Portable Ultra Short Throw Projector

Sony has announced the availability in its home country of the Portable Ultra Short Throw Projector – a compact and highly practical home projector.

The Japanese manufacturer first demonstrated the Portable Ultra Short Throw Projector at IFA 2015, back in September. Now it has supplied initial availability details.

Portable Ultra Short Throw Projector is a rather clumsy name, but it’s highly descriptive. Here is a small, highly portable, 8cm-wide projector that transmits a 1366 x 768 TV image at 100 lumens onto a surface (wall, floor or table) from just centimetres away.

It’s battery powered, and can run for two hours on a single charge. Meanwhile, the auto-focused image it projects can span from 22 to 80-inches in size.

There’s a speaker on the device, too, with Sony’s xLOUD technology helping to boost its power.

Connections are handled by an HDMI port, or through a wireless hub hooked up to a PC or media player. Your smartphone can also push media to it automatically when near through Bluetooth Low Energy.

The Sony Portable Ultra Short Throw Projector will be available in Japan from February 13th. It’ll cost around ¥93,000, which works out to around £565.

The Verge claims that it’ll be hitting the US this summer, but there’s no news as yet on a European release.
