Sony has revealed a new shape revision for its PlayStation 3 console. The new console will be slimmer and lighter, as well as having better storage.
Sony used its Tokyo Game Show conference to announce the new PlayStation 3. The headline feature of the new design is that it will be 20 per cent smaller and 25 per cent lighter than the outgoing model.
In Europe it'll be available in two models - one with 12GB of flash memory and another with a 500GB hard drive.
The 500GB model will launch on September 28 for €299.99 as part of a FIFA 13 bundle, while the 12GB budget model will follow "closely after" for around €229.99 on its own, according to the official PlayStation Europe blog. There'll also be a new 250GB hard drive peripheral available for those who opt for the 12GB model and feel the need to upgrade.
This will mark the second shape revision for the PlayStation 3. The first (and current model) came in September 2009.
In the US there'll be a 250GB model released on September 25 for $269.99, as part of a limited edition bundle that will include Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception: Game of the Year Edition and $30 worth of bonus digital content for the download-only game Dust 514.
Meanwhile the 500GB model will be made available on October 30 in conjunction with the launch of Assassin's Creed III. We dare say our US cousins can expect a special bundle offer around that time.
To mark the release of a new PlayStation model, the PlayStation Store will also be receiving a bit of an overhaul in October.
