Some Google Pixel XL smartphone models are already out of stock in the UK, despite the phone only being available for pre-order.
The Google Store is listing two of the new Google Pixel smartphones as unavailable, just three days before their actual release date. Customers can no longer buy the larger Google Pixel XL with 128GB of storage in “Quite Black”, or the version with 32GB of storage in “Very Silver”. All other models still appear to be available at this time, however.
The situation is a little better at Carphone Warehouse, Google’s retail partner for the UK. All models of the phone are still available, but the Google Pixel XL in Very Silver in either 32GB or 128GB is significantly delayed, with the current shipping estimate set for 22 November – more than a month after the proper retail launch.
You can expect similar delays at EE, Google’s exclusive network partner in Britain. The Google Pixel XL 32GB in Very Silver is set to ship in 21 days, while the 128GB version in the same colour won’t ship for 28 days.
Google Pixel is the first smartphone launched as part of the “Made by Google” rebrand
Google announced the Pixel and Pixel XL on 4 October, at the company’s first ever “Made by Google” event. The handsets, which are actually manufactured by Taiwanese mobile giant HTC, are designed and marketed by Google, and serve as a launchpad for Google’s new Android 7.1 Nougat mobile operating system.
They’re the first smartphones ever launched under the “Pixel” banner, which is the new brand replacing Google’s historic Nexus range of devices.
The new phones feature Qualcomm’s top-end Snapdragon 821 chip, 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, and a 12.3-megapixel camera. The handsets go on sale on 20 October, but are available to pre-order now.
