Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship Snapdragon 815 chipset has seemingly been detailed in a new report.
A Gizmochina article offers plenty of leaked information regarding the mobile chip, including when we might see it in action.
For starters, the Snapdragon 815 will purportedly use an octa-core set-up, with four Cortex-A72 processor cores and four Cortex-A53 processor cores.
These eight cores will reportedly be laid out in ARM’s big.LITTLE configuration; that’s a carryover from its current Snapdragon 810 series.
The Cortex-A72 cores are ARM’s latest mobile processor designs, and are poised to bring improved performance and greater power efficiency.
It is also tipped to use a next-gen Adreno GPU, and will be produced using a highly efficient 16nm FinFet manufacturing process.

Apparently that’s because the company ‘doesn’t want to hurt the sales of the 810 powered smartphones’ currently on the market – the HTC One M9 and LG G Flex 2, for instance.
We asked Qualcomm for comment on the matter, and it informed TrustedReviews that there are currently no plans for a Snapdragon 815 processor.

What’s most interesting about the report is that Qualcomm will apparently ditch the Snapdragon 810’s Cortex-A57 cores for the new Cortex-A72 cores.
That’s not entirely surprising, since they’re the latest processor designs. However, the Snapdragon 810 faced many accusations of overheating, and the Cortex-A57 cores were to blame. The new processors could rectify these purported issues.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first we’ve heard of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 815. Last week we reported on leaked heat tests that suggested the 815 will run cooler than both the 810 and 801, despite being a more powerful chip.
It’s not yet clear when we’ll actually see the new chip, or which handsets will carry it. The talk of a delay could suggest an appearance in the second half of 2015, while the follow-up 820 possibly coming in early 2016.
