Facebook has added a new ability to add text and colourful stickers to your photos, much like Snapchat.
It’s well known that Facebook wants a slice of Snapchat’s easy-going, ephemeral and popular-with-the-kids brand of communication. It first tried to emulate the app’s success with a service called Poke back in 2012.
When that didn’t work, it was rumoured that the social network giant tried to buy Snapchat in a $3 billion bid back in 2013.
When that didn’t work, Facebook just launched its very own Snapchat rival, Slingshot, this time last year. When that didn’t work, it rejigged and re-released the app in December.
It seems Facebook still isn’t content with its Snapchat emulating ways, as it’s now brought some key Snapchat elements to the Facebook app itself.
TechCrunch is reporting that Facebook has started testing a new photo-editing uploaded in the Facebook iOS app. This tool lets you overlay coloured text onto your pictures, as well as apply swipe-to-preview filters and slap on stickers.

The report points out that the text addition function appears to be lifted from Slingshot, with the same method of entering text and pinching and dragging to resize and position it. One annoyance here is that the background photo stays blurred out while you’re editing text, unlike in Snapchat where you have a permanent preview of the finished image.
It seems as if these changes are rolling out to iOS users now, while Android support shouldn’t be too long.
