Snapchat’s iPhone X-exclusive face masks have finally arrived
More than half a year after they were demoed by Apple at its September launch event, Snapchat has released its special iPhone X-exclusive Lenses.
The firm has unleashed a trio of digital face masks that take advantage of the handset’s front-facing TrueDepth camera, which is capable of tracking your facial features and expressions.
The Lenses place virtual representations of a Mardi Gras-style mask, a Day of the Dead skull, and a gold-plated eye cover over your face, according to the Verge. You can find them by tapping and holding the main camera screen in the Snapchat app.

Thanks to the TrueDepth camera, these Lenses will actually stick to the right parts of your face even when you move around. If you’ve ever used a standard Snapchat face filter before, you’ll know that they tend to jump around and flicker quite a lot.
It isn’t clear why it’s taken so long for the company to get the Lenses out to the public, but young, iPhone X-toting, Snapchat-filter-loving so-and-sos will no doubt be thrilled that their TrueDepth dreams have finally come true. And we can all move on from Animoji.
