Is Snapchat down? Here’s the official response from Snapchat HQ

Is Snapchat down? Users have reported that the hugely popular messaging service is out for the count, so you’re not alone.

When did Snapchat go down?

Just before 10pm last night, users began experiencing issues with Snapchat. Video stories were failing to refresh, making the app largely redundant for its userbase.

Checking popular outage tracker Down-Detector reveals that tens of thousands of users complained about the outage well into the night, although reports seems to tail off between 2am and 4am this morning.

The most reported problems included:

  • Sending snaps (42%)
  • Receiving snaps or refresh (31%)
  • App won’t log in or connect to server (26%)

Is Snapchat still down?

Snapchat’s support team was quick to promise a fix via Twitter, writing: “We’re looking into it!” and “We’re aware of the issue and working on a fix.”

According to Down-Detector, some users are still experiencing issues. On Twitter, a handful of users also seem to be reporting problems. However, the situation seems to be largely resolved for the majority of Snapchat users.

Snapchat hasn’t actually confirmed that the issue has been fixed yet, but the company is issuing a canned response on Twitter to anyone who lost their Snapstreak – a daily conversation count that racks up based on continued usage – because of the problem:

The 24 hour timeline Snapchat is suggesting is good evidence that the whole fiasco may have blown over by tomorrow.
