It's totally possible to play Skyrim with a potato controller

Skyrim spud

It turns out that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is totally playable with a potato, as a new video proves.

Launched back in 2011, Elder Scrolls: Skyrim has become a yardstick for engrossing open world RPGs - something all subsequent efforts in the genre have been measured up against.

There was always the nagging sense that something was missing from Bethesda's epic masterpiece, though. Something vaguely vegetable-shaped.

Now all has become clear, courtesy of a gamer who goes by the name of Robotater (via ShortList). A video has hit YouTube showing Robotater playing Skyrim through a tangle of wires and potato slices.

Want to know how this was achieved? Of course you do. Just head on over to Robotater's Steam Community page for a walkthrough.

All you need is a Makey Makey kit, a potato (other fruits and vegetables are available), a knife, some wire, some duct tape, and the will to play through several hundreds of hours of unforgiving RPG action using food.

Got all that? Then go right ahead.

Bethesda had plenty of non-food-related announcements to make at its recent E3 press conference, including Dishonored 2, VR versions of Doom and Fallout 4, and a relaunch of Prey.

The company also revealed an overhauled Skyrim Special Edition, but you'll have to settle for controlling it with a boring old PS4 or Xbox One control pad.
