We knew with the launch of Virgin Media that Sky would have something up its sleeve and now its hand is on the table.
Interestingly, it turns out that Sky’s tactic will be to battle the future with the past: the company is making a selection of its most popular channels available on terrestrial television.
This is rather a bombshell considering Sky founded its name on the installation of miniature satellite dishes on home walls up and down the country but later this year you will be able to get Murdock programming through a traditional rooftop aerial.
As you would expect the as yet unnamed channel will be subscription based and the line up will include a selection of entertainment, movies, news and sports and yes that includes live Premiership football. The catch – with Rupert Murdock there’s always a catch – is that a FreeView-esque set top box will be required and existing FreeView owners will lose access to Sky News, Sky Sports News and Sky Three.
