Sky Sports available from Sky Now TV
Sky Sports will be available on a Pay-As-You-Go basis through the Sky internet TV service, Now TV from spring, broadcasting giant Sky has confirmed.
In the new deal, Now TV customers will be able to access unlimited sports coverage from all six Sky Sports channels for a 24-hour period for the rather princely sum of £9.99.
In an increased attempt to provide alternative options to watch its TV content, customers will be able to subscribe to Sky Sports on a daily basis to watch one-off events like the England Test cricket matches, Masters Golf tournament or Monaco Grand Prix, all covered live by Sky Sports.
The Now TV launch is the first time the Sky Sports channels have been offered on a non-contract basis. The internet TV service already offers instant access to Sky Movies channels.
“The launch of Sky Sports on Now TV is an exciting step forward. We want to open up more choice for sports fans by offering a new and flexible way to enjoy the best live coverage across our six channel,” said Barney Francis, Managing Director of Sky Sports. “This is a way for us to reach new customers and bring the excitement of Sky Sports to an even bigger audience.”
This news follows the recent launch of Sky Go Extra, which allows Sky customers to download content on-demand to watch offline. BSkyB today announced that it has over 3.1 million Sky Go current, active users and over 10 million Sky satellite TV customers.
Sky’s spin off service Now TV is available on a range of internet connected devices, including PC, Mac and Xbox platforms as well as Apple iOS devices such as the Apple iPhone 5 and iPad mini. The service is only currently available on selected Android smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC Incredible S.
Sky Sports will be accessible via the Sky Now TV service from spring this year.
