Now TV box

Sky has lifted the lid on its plans for the coming months, revealing its next-generation Now TV box.

The revamped set-top box will start shipping in August for £14.99, and will come with a handful of improvements over the previous model.

Sky’s box will now boast an ethernet port and a “five times faster” processor that purportedly promises a “smoother experience.”

The hardware is based on the Roku 3 player, and should support 1080p streaming, a feature sorely missed on the current version.

Sky first revealed its plans to launch a ‘next-generation’ Now TV box back in February, although details were light at the time.

The company first launched its Now TV set-top box two years ago, which is a long time in tech.

Sky has also announced it’s adding a Month Pass to its Sky Sports pass offerings, which will land alongside the existing daily and weekly passes.

For one month’s access to Sky Sports, customers will have to pay £31.99, although there’s no commitment to subscribe.

There’s no specific release date given, but it’ll be on offer ahead of the start of the new football season in August.

Sky’s Now TV box is also getting a re-jigged interface, which will roll out as part of a software update “over the coming months.”

The telecom giant doesn’t actually detail what changes it has planned, only stating that it will make “it even quicker and easier for customers to get the channels and content they want.”
