Sky has announced it’s planning to launch an app providing dedicated video content for youngsters.
The kids app will be designed for both smartphones and tablets and is already in development.
The target demographic is children between the ages of four and nine, although there’s no stopping adult fans of The Cartoon Network, Disney, or Nickelodeon getting involved too.
Sky claims the app will give kids “an intuitive and playful experience,” and offers filter features for parents who want to make sure their kids aren’t watching anything particularly deviant.
There’s also a “bedtime” setting, as well as a history readout that reveals what the children have been viewing.
Interestingly, the app is being developed by UK-headquartered design studio ustwo.
If that name rings a bell, it’s because that’s the same development studio that worked on the smash hit mobile game Monument Valley. We’re hoping the app adopts a similarly quirky art style.

At the very least, the bundled parental control settings will make this a surefire winner for those dissatisfied with Google’s YouTube Kids app.
The YouTube spin-off has come under fire twice this year; the first time for including allegedly "deceptive" advertising, the second time for broadcasting what was claimed to be “extremely disturbing” videos.
