Broadcast giant Sky has revised its Sky+ iPhone app, bringing users the opportunity to utilise their Apple branded handset as a Sky+ remote control.
Having brought the experience enhancing features to the Sky+ iPad application earlier in the year, Sky has today added the remote features to the iPhone app allowing iPhone and iPod touch toting TV customers to forgo the usual chunky remote control in favour of their touchscreen brandishing smartphones.
“People use their phones as a one-stop-shop to manage virtually every aspect of their lives - whether organising their diary, checking their bank balance or paying bills - so why not use it to control their TV too,” said Luke Bradley-Jones, Sky’s Brand Director of TV Products stated. “Having received great feedback about these features when we introduced them to the Sky+ app for iPad earlier this year, it’s great to now be making them available on iPhone too, which is obviously the ideal size for use as a remote control.”
He added: “Combined with the convenience of also being able to remotely record programmes from their phone while out and about, the Sky+ app is cementing its position as the ultimate TV gadget, helping millions of our customers get more great value from their Sky subscription both in and out of the home.”
Allowing users to not only change channels but pause, play and rewind live TV direct from their handsets, the newly revised iPhone application supports a selection of touch and swipe gesture controls for a more natural engaging experience. The new additions can be made use of simply by connecting your Sky+ HD box to the same Wi-Fi network as the app filled handset.
Not simply limited to a selection of quirky remote features, the Sky+ iPhone app, which is free to download for all Sky+ TV customers, also offers users the ability access their Sky+ planner remotely, setting up and deleting recordings at will.
Although not currently yet available, Sky has confirmed that it is working on bringing the new remote features to Google OS filled smartphone stating that “the new features will be coming to Android handsets in the coming months.”
